Cornell University Reopens Rape Investigation Following New Student Statement

Macon, GA, October 1, 2026 —

An ongoing investigation into an alleged rape at Cornell University has been reopened by authorities following the emergence of new information. The development stems from a statement provided by the student involved in the incident to campus police earlier in 2024.

The district attorney’s office has reportedly begun a review of the case in light of these newly provided details. The allegations concern an assault that is said to have occurred at the Chi Phi fraternity, a student organization located on the Cornell University campus.

The specific nature of the new details provided in the student’s 2024 statement has not been publicly disclosed. Similarly, the exact timeline of the alleged assault, the date the original investigation was initiated, or any previous outcomes of that investigation were not immediately available.

Cornell University Police Department, in conjunction with the district attorney’s office, is expected to examine the updated information to determine the next steps in the reopened investigation. The university has not issued a statement regarding the reopening of the case, nor has the Chi Phi fraternity commented on the renewed scrutiny.

The process of reopening investigations often involves reviewing previously gathered evidence alongside new statements or information that may alter the course of inquiry. Officials have indicated that the review is preliminary, and further actions will depend on the findings.

Details regarding the identities of individuals involved or specific dates of the alleged incident remain confidential as the investigation proceeds. Further updates are anticipated as the district attorney’s office completes its review and collaborates with campus authorities.
