Martingale, founded by three CMU computer science students, has released Raven Alpha, a model drift detection method that ranks first in benchmark tests. The tool aims to help developers detect behavior changes in large language model APIs.
Martingale introduces Raven Alpha for model drift detection
PALO ALTO, US — October 22, 2026 — Martingale, a data infrastructure and analytics company focused on artificial intelligence, announced on Tuesday the launch of Raven Alpha, a novel method for detecting drift in AI models. The company said Raven Alpha ranks first among model drift detection approaches in independent evaluations. The announcement was made by co-founders Arjun Hans, Veenu Damarla, and Jayden Ishihara, who are computer science students at Carnegie Mellon University.

Model drift occurs when an AI model’s behavior changes over time, often due to updates or shifts in underlying data. For developers building products on large language model APIs from providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic, undetected drift can cause applications to fail or produce inconsistent results. Martingale’s method is designed to identify such changes before they affect end users.
Founders combine academic research with practical focus
Hans, Damarla, and Ishihara developed Raven Alpha while studying at Carnegie Mellon. According to the company, the team’s approach outperforms established drift detection techniques in head-to-head comparisons. The founders have not disclosed the specific benchmarks used, but they said the results have been validated through internal testing and will be submitted for peer review.
Martingale is positioning Raven Alpha as a tool for enterprises and developers who rely on third-party AI APIs. The company said the method can be integrated into existing monitoring pipelines and provides early warnings when model behavior deviates from expected patterns.
Early access and availability
Raven Alpha is currently available in a limited early access program. Martingale plans to release a commercial version later this year, with pricing to be announced. The company said it is working with several design partners to refine the product and gather feedback from production environments.
The launch comes as businesses increasingly depend on AI models for critical functions, raising the stakes for reliability and consistency. Martingale’s entry into the drift detection market adds a new option for organizations seeking to maintain oversight of third-party AI systems.
